Important Rules of Personal Branding- Joy Eneghalu - Personal branding

When launching a personal brand, there are important rules that you must pay attention to. If you have a personal brand, access it right now using these rules and if you don’t, what a great start you already have.

1) Specialization:

Being multi-talented is the problem of so many individuals but it is important that you focus on one area. This will help you avoid confusing your audience or attracting various kinds of people to yourself. Remember, you can’t be everything to everyone.

Quick exercise! What do these names stand for in one word?

– Taraji P Henson
– Will Smith
– Steve Harvey
– Barack Obama
– Elon Musk
– Gary Vaynerchuk
– Vusi Thembekwayo

Let’s bring it home:
– Ubong King
– Steve Harris
– Remi Owadokun
– Poju Oyemade
– Maraji
– OloriSuperGal

Now add your name to the list and write out what you stand for in one word.

2) Leadership:

You have to acknowledged and recognised as one of the leaders in your field. Oh, you must! How then? I will simply say this and leave your smart mind to figure it out. If you don’t get invited to the table, there are three things to do.
– Find the right plugs to the table and get to know them. If you don’t know anyone, that fine. Read the next line.
– Get your own table and invite them to it. If you feel you can’t do it. Read the next line and don’t read any further.
– Just remain a nobody!

3) Personality:

Your brand must be built around your personality. Now you see why personal branding can’t be faked. If your personality isn’t good, get ready to have a stinking brand that will turn people off. They don’t even need to come close to perceive it. The good news is that you can work on being a better individual every single day.

4) Distinctiveness:

Learn to express your brand in a unique way. Try to stand out from the rest. Doing this isn’t far fetched either. Finding out who you truly are will help you a lot with this.

5) Visibility:

What’s the use of winking in the dark? Asides no one seeing you, your eyes will get hurt from winking a lot in the dark! Build yourself a very large touch that will light up the area and don’t just get in their with your eyes. The marketplace is too much of a mad place for that. Get your trumpet and blow it till everyone stops to see what the hell is going on with you. Aha! Attention gotten!!!

6) Behind the scene:

You can’t be a saint on the outside and a devil on the inside. It’s only a matter of time before it will blow up in your face. Your behaviour in closed doors must match your public behaviour.

7) Persistence:

While I’m completely all for a personal brand, you must understand that it is not a get rich scheme. You must give it time to grow. Also, pay attention to trends and know when to apply changes. Don’t jump on every trend that comes your way. When you take your trumpet to the marketplace, you have to learn the keys. Figure out the song you want to play. Learn to play it. Practice it everyday. The more confident you become, the more excellent you become, the louder you’d want people to hear. Trust the process!

When people hear your name, what words do you want them to think about?
