Let’s be frank, creating an online course is a lot of work especially when it needs to be done perfectly well. However, it can be done. It is a great income engine and you can resell them over and over and over again.
If you are new to creating online courses, then you’d need these tools to create your first online course ASAP.
1) A laptop – You can create your course with a mobile phone as well but for convenience and even more available tools, a laptop is a must have. Normally, a microphone is supposed to be number two on this post but there are some laptops that comes with great microphones. If you feel the need to get a microphone, you can get a lapel or boom microphone.
2) A recording tool – You’d need a tool like use loom R, Screencastomatic, Zoom, Skype or Camtasia to record your screen while you teach. There are tons of recording devices out there, but these are tested and trusted.
3) A hosting platform – When you are done recording, you’d need a hosting platform. People have made the mistake to think they can host it on their website. Unless you have unlimited bandwidth and the rest of them, please by all means do. The other effect of hosting it on your website if you don’t have the proper things in place is that it makes your website really heavy. To avoid that, you can host your online course on YouTube or on Vimeo. Don’t fret that people may view your course without paying. Simply have your video on YouTube as unlisted and all will be well.
4) A viewing platform – Where will your audience watch the course? Because it’s hosted on YouTube doesn’t mean you’ll bombard them with links to different videos. You can have your videos on platforms like Thinkific, Skillshare, Teachable, Udemy, Coursera etc. Each platform has its terms so you’d have to research to find out if their terms works for you. If you want to take it a step higher, you can have your own online course on your website. This means, it can be viewed on your website. If you have a theme that comes with this functionality, all you have to do is embed the video code on your website. If your theme doesn’t come with it, all you have to do is to get a plugin to help you – Learnpress or Learndash does the magic.
